Firm and Fair, Candid and Kind

We are not generally big ones for inspirational quotes, but here's one we've generally tried to incorporate into our practice. It's from Og Mandino:

Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster. Your life will never be the same again.

This has been on our minds since in the last few years, and particularly in the the last few weeks, we have been involved in supporting a few clients through some difficult business decisions. We encourage our clients to be firm and fair, candid and kind. Contrary to the belief that these traits are mutually exclusive, when combined, these traits—firmness and fairness as well as candor and kindness—work in wonderful harmony.

Our clients did the right thing in each case, and they can sleep with a good conscience. Along the way we've made sure to treat the people well, and we have never regretted helping any business leader adopt this approach.
